The Arabian Mate is one of the oldest checkmate patterns on record, appearing in medieval manuscripts from the days when the queen was still a weak piece. A knight and rook team up against a cornered king: the knight guards the corner's escape square AND protects the rook, which delivers mate right next to the king.
The geometry is precise: king in the corner, knight two diagonal steps away (on f6 against a king on h8), rook landing beside the king on the 7th rank. The knight does double duty, covering g8 and defending the rook on h7, which is what makes the "impossible-looking" rook touch legal.

The knight on f6 covers g8 and protects h7. The rook is already on the 7th rank.
