Board Editor

Use this to set up a position from a book, a video, or your own memory — drag pieces from the palette onto the board, or drag pieces already on the board to rearrange them. Clear the board entirely to start from nothing, or reset to the standard starting position at any time.

Toggle whose move it is with the button below the board — this matters for the exported FEN and for correctly analyzing the position afterward. Castling rights are inferred automatically from whether each king and rook still sit on their home squares, the same approximation most board-editor tools use for a position you're setting up rather than one reached through actual play. Once you're happy with it, copy the FEN directly or send it straight into the Analysis Board with one click.
