By using chesswithrookie.com, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. We may update these terms occasionally; continued use after a change means you accept the update.

Rookie is a free chess game analysis and training tool. It fetches publicly available game data from Chess.com and Lichess when you provide a username, grades moves using the Stockfish chess engine, and (for signed-in users) tracks recurring mistakes and generates puzzles and coaching content, some of it via an AI language model.

Rookie is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Chess.com, Lichess, or the Stockfish project. Their names are used only to describe interoperability with their public APIs and open-source engine.

Creating an account is optional and only needed for features that persist between visits (the mistake deck, coach chat, saved puzzle progress). You're responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for activity under your account. One account per person; don't create accounts to circumvent usage limits or impersonate others.

Don't use Rookie to scrape, bulk-download, or resell data at a scale beyond normal personal use; attempt to bypass rate limits, usage caps, or security controls; interfere with the service for other users; or use the AI coach to attempt to extract its underlying instructions, generate content unrelated to chess, or otherwise misuse the feature outside its intended purpose.

The AI Coach, training plans, and some site content are generated by a large language model based on your game data and general chess knowledge. This content is for informational and educational purposes, not professional coaching, and may occasionally be inaccurate or miss context a human coach would catch. Use your own judgment, especially for anything beyond casual improvement.

Games you paste or import remain yours; we don't claim ownership of them. By submitting a game to Rookie, you confirm you have the right to have it analyzed (this is normally true of your own games, including ones played on Chess.com or Lichess). We may use aggregated, de-identified statistics (not tied to your account or username) to improve the product.

Rookie is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. Move grades, rating estimates, and AI-generated advice are approximations, not guarantees of accuracy, and we don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

To the extent permitted by law, Rookie and its operator aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Since Rookie is free, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months, which for nearly all users is zero.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including abusive use of the AI coach, attempts to bypass usage limits, or activity that disrupts the service for others. You can stop using Rookie, or ask us to delete your account, at any time.

These terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
